Ophryophryne hansi Ohler, 2003, Alytes, 21: 28. Holotype: FMNH 252880, by original designation. Type locality: "Buon Loi (700-750 m), 20 km west of the town of Kannack (14° 20′ N, 108° 36′ E), An Khe District, Gia-Lai Province, Vietnam".

Known from Gia-Lai, Thua Thien-Hue, and Ha Tinh Provinces, Vietnam; from Siem Pang, eastern Cambodia; and from Bolikhamxay and Khammouan provinces, Laos.


The epithet hansi is a noun in apposition, not a genitive, as noted in the original publication. Stuart, Sok, and Neang, 2006, Raffles Bull. Zool., 54: 135, reported the species in Cambodia and who noted that the animal pictured of the holotype in the original publication was neither the holotype nor a specimen of Ophryophryne hansi. See comments by Inger, Orlov, and Darevsky, 1999, Fieldiana, Zool., N.S., 92: 9 (as Ophryophryne poilani). Stuart, 2005, Herpetol. Rev., 36: 475, provided records for Laos. Frost, Grant, Faivovich, Bain, Haas, Haddad, de Sá, Channing, Wilkinson, Donnellan, Raxworthy, Campbell, Blotto, Moler, Drewes, Nussbaum, Lynch, Green, and Wheeler, 2006, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 297: 312, noted the occurrence of this species in Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam. Bain, Nguyen, and Doan, 2007, Herpetol. Rev., 38: 108, provided records from Thua Thien-Hue Province, Vietnam, and briefly discussed the range.
