Megophrys takensis Mahony, 2011, Zootaxa, 2734: 30. Holotype: BMNH 1972.1519, by original designation. Type locality: "'2500ft, Ban Pa Che, N.W. of Tak [Tak Province], N.W. Thailand'".

Ban Pa Che (762 m elevation), northwest of Tak town (16° 52′ 16″ N, 99° 07′ 30″ E), and Taksinmaharat National Park, 25 km west of Tak town, Tak Province, in western Thailand, and Khlong Lan National Park, 305 m elevation, Kampaeng, Thailand. 


Confused with Megophrys parva according to the original publication. Mahony, Foley, Biju, and Teeling, 2017, Mol. Biol. Evol., 34: 8, provided the record from Khlong Lan National Park, Kampaeng, Thailand.
