Copiula pipiens Burton and Stocks, 1986, Trans. R. Soc. S. Aust., 110: 155. Holotype: SAMA R29779, by original designation. Type locality: "Wirui, 1 km from Wewak (3°35′S, 143°35′E), Papua New Guinea". Junior secondary homonym of Cophixalus pipilans Zweifel, 1980, when both are in Asterophrys.

Asterophrys pipiens — Dubois, Ohler, and Pyron, 2021, Megataxa, 5: 418.

Common Names

Wirui Mehely Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 89).

Distribution

Wewak area on the north coast of Papua New Guinea; Yapen Island, Papua, Indonesia.

Günther, 2003, Faun. Abh. Staatl. Mus. Tierkd., Dresden, 24: 214, provided a record for this species, or a closely related one, from Yapen I., Papua, Indonesia. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 197, provided a brief account. Shea and Kraus, 2007, Zootaxa, 1514: 37-60, commented on types.
