Hylophorbus nigrinus Günther, 2001, Russ. J. Herpetol., 8: 92. Holotype: ZMB 62402, by original designation. Type locality: "7 km north of the village of Konti (NE of Serui) at an altitude of 640 m NN, 1° 49′ S, 136° 18′ E, Yapen Island, Irian Jaya (West Papua), Indonesia".

Known only from the vicinity of the type locality, 630 to 650 m elevation, near the Serui-Jobi road on Yapen Island, Papua, New Guinea, Indonesia.
