Cophixalus crucifer Van Kampen, 1913, Nova Guinea, 9: 462. Syntypes: ZMA 5819-5820, according to Van Tuijl, 1995, Bull. Zool. Mus. Univ. Amsterdam, 14: 127. Type locality: "Went-Gebirge, 800 und 1050 m" = Went Mountains, 800 and 1,050 m, Papua (New Guinea), Indonesia.

Oreophryne cruciferaParker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 166. Unjustified treatment of the species name as an adjective rather than a noun. The species name crucifer is a noun in apposition and does not change with a change in gender of the genus name (Art. 31.2.2, 1999 Code).
