Oreophryne hypsiops Zweifel, Menzies, and Price, 2003, Am. Mus. Novit., 3415: 22. Holotype: AMNH A-83044, by original designation. Type locality: "vicinity of Sempi, 9 km north of Alexishafen, sea-level elevation, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea".

Asterophrys hypsiops — Dubois, Ohler, and Pyron, 2021, Megataxa, 5: 521, by implication.

Distribution

Adelbert Mountains and adjacent coastal region of Madang Province, westward to the south slope of the Schrader Mountains, and probably northwest as far as the vicinity of Lumi, West Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea, 0-975 m elevation.

Confused with Oreophryne biroi prior to its description according to the original publication. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 209, provided a brief account. Shea and Kraus, 2007, Zootaxa, 1514: 37-60, commented on types.
