Sphenophryne schlaginhaufeni Wandolleck, 1911 "1910", Abh. Ber. Zool. Anthropol. Ethnograph. Mus. Dresden, 13: 5. Syntypes: MTD D2212 (2 specimens), destroyed according to Obst, 1977, Zool. Abh. Staatl. Mus. Tierkd. Dresden, 34: 175; BMNH 1947.2.12.45–46 are recorded in museum records as syntypes, but this requires confirmation. Type locality: "Oberlauf des Rienjamur 650–700 m üb. Meer" (= Upper reaches of the Rienjamur 650–700 m above the sea), Torricelli Mountains, West Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea.

Distribution
Upland regions of New Guinea; the central ranges of Papua (Indonesia) east to Chimbu Province (Papua New Guinea), and in the north coast ranges of Papua New Guinea.
