Rhombophryne mavokely Scherz, Glaw, Petzold, Andreone, Köhler, Raselimanana, Hutter, Belluardo, Rakotoarison, Hofreiter, Vences, and Crottini, 2026, Vert. Zool., Senckenberg, 76: 524–525. Holotype: ZSM 521/2016, by original designation. Type locality: "in low elevation primary rainforest within Marojejy National Park (14.4400°S, 49.7782°E, 402 m a.s.l.), Sava Region, northeastern Madagascar". Distribution

Currently definitively known only from (1) Marojejy National Park (type locality); photographic evidence suggests tentatively referrable records from (2) Anjanaharibe-Sud (14.72°S, 49.46°E, ca 1430 m) and (3) Simpona Lodge in Makira Natural Park (near 15.1992°S, 49.6208°E, ca 410 m), suggesting that distribution in the rainforests of northeastern Madagascar may be more extensive than previously thought. Elevation: ca. 310–402 m, but the record from Anjanaharibe-Sud would add ca. 1000 m elevation to ca 1430 m.

In the Rhombophryne testudo group of Scherz, Glaw, Petzold, Andreone, Köhler, Raselimanana, Hutter, Belluardo, Rakotoarison, Hofreiter, Vences, and Crottini, 2026, Vert. Zool., Senckenberg, 76: 485–610, who provided a species account covering phylogenetic relationships, morphology, osteology, natural history, advertisement call, and previous informal names and other relevant literature.
