In the Rhombophryne ellae species group of Scherz, Glaw, Petzold, Andreone, Köhler, Raselimanana, Hutter, Belluardo, Rakotoarison, Hofreiter, Vences, and Crottini, 2026, Vert. Zool., Senckenberg, 76: 485–610, who provided an account, detailing adult external morphology, morphometrics, osteology, and molecular markers were detailed as well as relevant literature.
