Chiasmocleis carvalhoi Cruz, Caramaschi, and Izecksohn, 1997, Alytes, 15: 65. Holotype: MNRJ 17505, by original designation. Type locality: "Horto Florestal de Santa Cruz, municipality of Seropédica (22° 44′ S, 43° 43′ W; ca. 40 m altitude), state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil". Secondary homonym of Syncope carvalhoi Nelson, 1975.

Izecksohn and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2001, Anf. Municipio Rio de Janeiro: 92, provided a brief account (as Chiasmocleis carvalhoi) and photo. Pimenta, Cruz, and Dixo, 2002, Herpetol. Rev., 33: 219, reported (as Chiasmocleis carvalhoi) the Bahia record and briefly discussed the range. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Chiasmocleis carvalhoi) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 447. Silva-Soares, Nogueira da Costa, and Ferreira, 2009, Herpetol. Rev., 40: 107, provided the record (as Chiasmocleis carvalhoi) from Espírito Santo, Brazil. Luiz, Pires, Ferrarini, and Sawaya, 2014, Check List, 10: 1243–45, provided a range extension within São Paulo state and a range map (as Chiasmocleis carvalhoi). Peloso, Sturaro, Forlani, Gaucher, Motta, and Wheeler, 2014, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 386: 20, placed this species in their Chiasmocleis albopunctata clade. Cordioli, Matias, and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2019, Herpetol. Notes, 12: 1037–1050, reported on reproduction as well as larval morphology and ontogeny.
