Comment
Previously confused with Kaloula baleata according to the original publication. Teynié, Nguyen, Lorvelec, Piquet, Lottier, and David, 2014, Bull. Soc. Herpetol. France, 151: 29, provided a record from Khammouan Province, Laos, and discussed the range in Laos. See account, photograph, and map for Vietnam in Vassilieva, Galoyan, Poyarkov, and Geissler, 2016, Photograph. Field Guide Amph. Rept. Lowland S. Vietnam: 69–70. Do, Ngo, and Nguyen, 2017, Hue Univ. J. Sci: Nat. Sci., 126: 87, provided records from Phu Yen Province, southern Vietnam, and commented on coloration, range, and ecology. Vassilieva, 2021, Zootaxa, 4952: 71–86, described larval morphology. Poyarkov, Nguyen, Popov, Geissler, Pawangkhanant, Neang, Suwannapoom, and Orlov, 2021, Russ. J. Herpetol., 28 (3A): 40, stated that unpublished molecular data confirms presence in Thailand but this was not reflected in the study of Gorin, Orlov, Bragin, Pawangkhanant, Milto, Le, Nguyen, Dufresnes, Suwannapoom, and Poyarkov, 2024, Herpetozoa, Wien, 37: 391–420, who addressed the molecular phylogenetics and taxonomy of the complex and who reidentified the central Laos population as a new species, Kaloula laosensis and southern Vietnam population as Kaloula discordia. They also provided a dot map of the species. Stuart, Seateun, Sivongxay, and Phimmachak, 2025 "2024", in Wildlife Lao PDR: 36, summarized literature, taxonomy, habitat, and detailed range for Laos.
