Previously confused with Uperodon variegatus. In the original publication, the molecular systematics, osteology and external morphology were reviewed. See previous accounts (as Ramanella variegata) by Kirtisinghe, 1957, Amph. Ceylon: 83-85, Dutta and Manamendra-Arachchi, 1996, Amph. Fauna Sri Lanka: 51-53, and de Silva, 2009, Amph. Rep. Sri Lanka Photograph. Guide: 85. Wijayathilaka, Senevirathne, Bandara, Rajapakse, Pethiyagoda, and Meegaskumbura, 2018, Global Ecol. Conserv., 16 (e00496): 1–13, reported on conservation status, range via niche modeling, DNA barcoding, and acoustics.
