Scaphiophryne marmorata Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 472. Holotype: BMNH, by original designation; BMNH 1947.2.30.81 (originally 1882.3.16.29 by museum records) according to Blommers-Schlösser and Blanc, 1991, Faune de Madagascar, 75: 32. Type locality: "East Betsileo", Madagascar.

Distribution

Mid-altitude rainforest in central eastern Madagascar from Zahamena south to the Andasibe area, 100–1000 m elevation.

Comment

Vences, Aprea, Capriglione, Andreone, and Odierna, 2002, Chromosome Res., 10: 127–136, reported an unnamed species, closely similar to Scaphiophryne marmorata, and removed Scaphiophrnye spinosa from synonymy.
