Uperoleia gurrumuli Catullo and Keogh, 2021, Zootaxa, 5057: 62. Holotype: NTM R19104, by original designation. Type locality: "Recorded location states ‘Djeergaree’ [Djirrkari] island, while latitude and longitude (11°38.1’ S, 136°12.1’ E) are in the ocean near Rarrakala Island, the next island in the Wessel chain . . . . The mostly likely collection location is Djirrkari Island, Northern Territory, Australia".

Distribution

Known only from Djirrkari, Guluwurru, Martjanba, and Rarrakala Islands in the Wessel Island chain, northeastern Northern Territory, Australia.

Comment

Diagnosed from other Uperoleia on the basis of sequence divergence of the NADH dehydroxinase mtDNA gene; in a group containing Uperoleia crassa, Uperoleia borealis, Uperoleia inundata, Uperoleia russelli, and Uperoleia saxatilis. Beyond that molecular confirmation is required for identification according to the original publication where morphology was detailed but noted to be insufficient for diagnosis. Advertisement call is unknown. Cutajar, Portway, Gillard, and Rowley, 2022, Tech. Rep. Aust. Mus. Online, 36: 44, provided a polygon distribution map.
