Proceratophrys belzebul Dias, Amaro, Carvalho-e-Silva, and Rodrigues, 2013, Zootaxa, 3682: 288. Holotype: CFBH 16283, by original designation. Type locality: "Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar, Núcleo Santa Virgínia, São Luis do Paraitinga municipality (23°20’S, 45°03’) São Paulo state".

In the Proceratophrys appendiculata group according to the original publication. Dena, Zornosa-Torres, Bolovon, Paiva, Machado, Prado, Ernetti, Carrasco-Medina, Assis, Lingnau, Llanos, Toledo, and Augusto-Alves, 2024, Bioacoustics, 33: 401–432, reported on the advertisement call.
