Resurrected from the synonymy of Arthroleptella lightfooti by Channing, Hendricks, and Dawood, 1994, S. Afr. J. Zool., 29: 242, where it had been placed by Poynton, 1964, Ann. Natal Mus., 17: 152. See accounts by Channing, 2001, Amph. Cent. S. Afr.: 275-276, Channing, 2004, in Minter et al. (eds.), Atlas Frogs S. Afr. Lesotho and Swaziland: 208-209, and Du Preez and Carruthers, 2009, Compl. Guide Frogs S. Afr.: 348-349. Du Preez and Carruthers, 2017, Frogs S. Afr., Compl. Guide: 386–387, provided an account, including a polygon range map, photograph, identification features, adult and larval morphology, habitat, and call. With the naming of Arthroleptella draconella and Arthroleptella atermina by Turner and Channing, 2017, Afr. J. Herpetol., 66: 53–78, the range of Arthroleptella bicolor was excluded from the Du Toits Kloof, Hawequas, Klein Drakenstein, and  Riviersonderend Mountains. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph.
