Tomopterna monticola (Fischer, 1884)

Phrynobatrachus monticola Fischer, 1884, Jahrb. Hamburg. Wiss. Anst., 1: 26. Holotype: ZMH A04402 (formerly ZMH 388), according to Rödel and Hallermann, 2006, Afr. J. Herpetol., 55: 70. Type locality: "Massai-Gebiete (Ost-Afrika) . . . . Bach Wasso-Njiro", near the village Olengarua, Kenya. Hallermann, 2006, Mitt. Hamburg. Zool. Mus. Inst., 103: 139, amplified the type locality to: "Bach (streamlet) Wasso-Njiro, Massailand", (Kenya, north of Lake Natron in the border region to Tanzania (approximately between 1°30′ and 2°04 S / 36°12′ E))".

None noted.


Known only from the type locality (near Olengarua, southern Kenya).


Rödel and Hallermann, 2006, Afr. J. Herpetol., 55: 69-75, showed that Phrynobatrachus monticola Fischer, 1884, is a member of Tomopterna, but could not resolve if it represents a distinct species, or a junior synonym of Tomopterna tuberculosa or a senior synonym of Tomopternua lugangaSpawls, Wasonga, and Drewes, 2019, Amph. Kenya: 37, provided a photograph, range map, and brief characterization.
