Anders, 2002, in Schleich and Kästle (eds.), Amph. Rept. Nepal: 291-293, provided an account for the Nepal population. Dubois, 2004, Alytes, 21: 175, noted that this species had previously been referred to Rana danieli and Rana nigrovittata. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status (as Rana chitwaensis) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 632. See Shah and Tiwari, 2004, Herpetofauna Nepal: 69, for brief account (as Rana chitwaensis). Oliver, Prendini, Kraus, and Raxworthy, 2015, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 90: 188, noted that this species is likely in either in Hydrophylax or Indosylvirana, but pending genetic sampling declined to make any taxonomic changes. Not mentioned by Khatiwada, Wang, Zhao, Xie, and Jiang, 2021, Asian Herpetol. Res., 12: 1–35, in their report on Nepal amphibians, a curious oversight.
