Odorrana aureola Stuart, Chuaynkern, Chan-ard, and Inger, 2006, Fieldiana, Zool., N.S., 1543: 8. Holotype: THNHM 05341 (= FMNH 265925), by original designation. Type locality: "on a large boulder on the bank of Sung Mak Hing Stream above Tad Loei Waterfall in hilly evergreen forest in Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary, Phu Rua District, Loei Province, Thailand, 17° 15′ 32.4″ N 101° 30′ 22.8″ E".

Distribution

Loei, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, and Uttaradit provinces, Thailand, in swift cascades; expected in adjacent northwestern Laos and mainland southwestern Myanmar.

Confused with Odorrana livida prior to its description according to the original publication, which provided a discussion of relevant literature and similar species. Chuaynkern, Inthara, Duengkae, and Songchan, 2010, Thailand Nat. Hist. Mus. J., 4: 29–33, discussed range extensions of Uttaradit and Phetchabun province, Thailand, including photographs and measurements, along with a map that suggests its eventual discovery in nearby Laos. Ampai, Rujirawan, Arkajag, McLeod, and Aowphol, 2015, Zootaxa, 3981: 508–520, reported on larval morphology. Niyomwan, Srisom, and Pawangkhanant, 2019, Field Guide Amph. Thailand: 350–351, provided a brief account (description, photographs, habitat, and range) for Thailand (in Thai). Makchai, Chuaynkern, Safoowong, Chuachat, and Cota, 2020, Amph. N. Thailand: 140, provided a brief account, photographs, and a range map for Thailand.
