Telmatobius chusmisensis Formas, Cuevas, and Nuñez, 2006, Herpetologica, 62: 174. Holotype: IZUA 3397, by original designation; destroyed by fire on 3 December 2007. Type locality: "Chusmisa (19° 41′ S, 69° 13′ W), 92 km NE Huara, Iquique Province, I Región of Tarapacá, Chile; approximately 3650 m elevation".

Known from Chusmisa, Loanzana, Huasco, Piga, and the wetland of Lirima, ca. 4000 m elevation, Región de Tarapacá, Chile. See comment.

In the Telmatobius zapahuirensis group of Sáez, Fibla, Correa-Quezada, Sallaberry-Ayerza, Salinas, Veloso, Mella, Iturra-Constant, and Méndez, 2014, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 171: 769–782.See Lobos, Vidal-Maldonado, Correa-Quezada, Labra-Lillo, Díaz-Páez, Charrier, Rabanal, Díaz-Vidal, and Tala, 2013, Anf. Chile Conserv.: 1–104, for photograph, comments on conservation status, and range. Sáez, Fibla, Correa-Quezada, Sallaberry-Ayerza, Salinas, Veloso, Mella, Iturra-Constant, and Méndez, 2014, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 171: 769–782, additionally reported this species from Chijlla, Choja, and Copaquire, Tarapacá, Chile, but these populations were subsequently reassigned to Telmatobius halli by Fibla, Salinas, Lobos, del Pozo D., Fabres, and Méndez, 2018, Zootaxa, 4527: 61–74. Lobos, Rebolledo, Salinas, Fibla, Sáez, and Méndez, 2021, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 20: 1–7, reported on ecology, habitat, conservation status and range, and provided a locality from Lirima wetland, Región de Tarapacá, Chile, ca. 4000 m elevation.
