Telmatobius schreiteri Vellard, 1946, Acta Zool. Lilloana, 3: 321. Holotype: FML 00216. See comments by Lavilla, 1994 "1992", Acta Zool. Lilloana, 42: 94, who noted that of the two "types" (Tipo and Holotipo) FML 216 (Tipo) is Telmatobius schreiteri and FML 29 (Holotipo) is Telmatobius laticeps. This may constitute a lectotype designation. Type locality: "Aimogasta, province de La Rioja", Argentina.

This species was included as a subspecies of Telmatobius hauthali by Vellard, 1951, Mem. Mus. Hist. Nat. Javier Prado, 1: 1-89, but was considered a distinct species by Laurent, 1977, Acta Zool.
