Pseudohynobius shuichengensis Tian, Li, Sun, and Gu, 1998, J. Liupanshiu Teacher's Coll., 1998(4): 9-13. Holotype: LTHC 9460080, by original designation. Type locality: Shuicheng County, Guizhou Province, China, with an elevation of 1820 meters. Dubois, Crombie, and Glaw, 2005, Alytes, 23: 48, selection of this spelling as the correct original spelling, acting as First Revisor.

Type locality: Shuicheng County, Guizhou Province, China, with an elevation of 1820 meters. Objective synonym of Pseudohynobius shuichengensis Tian, Gu, Sun, and Li, 1998. Known only from the region of the type locality (Shuicheng County, Guizhou Province, China, 1910–1970 m elevation).

Redescribed and discussed by Tian, Li, and Gu, 2006, Acta Zool. Sinica, 52: 522-527 (who chose another specimen, Liupanshui Teacher's College 9460080, as holotype), who also noted the similarity of this species to Pseudohynobius flavomaculatus. Raffaëlli, 2007, Les Urodèles du Monde: 63-64, provided a brief account. Dubois, Crombie, and Glaw, 2005, Alytes, 23: 48, noted variant spellings in the original publication as as first revisors chose shuichengensis is the correct spelling. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1611–1616, provided an account , figures, and range map. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 54-55, provided a brief account including photographs of specimens and habitat. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 81 , provided a brief account, photo, and map.
