Comment

Mostly closely related to Nototriton barbouri and Nototriton lignicola according to the original publication. See account by McCranie and Wilson, 2003, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 763: 1–2. McCranie, 2007, Herpetol. Rev., 38: 36, summarized the departmental distribution in Honduras. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 578. Townsend, Luque-Montes, and Wilson, 2011, Salamandra, 47: 50–54, provided a range extension and discussed the range. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 76–80, compared this species with others from Central America and provided a map and photograph. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 368, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 882–883, provided an account summarizing morphology, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
