Most closely related to Tylototriton dabienicus, according to the original publication, where comparative morphology and mtDNA markers were detailed. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 292, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
