Comment
See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 602. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 212, provided brief accounts (as Lyciasalamandra billae (p. 212, Lyciasalamandra arikani (p. 213), Lyciasalamandra irfani (p. 213), and Lyciasalamandra yehudai (p. 214), photograph, and map. Sparreboom, 2014, Salamanders Old World: 244–245, reviewed the biology, characteristics, distribution, reproduction, and conservation of the species. Godmann, Kariş, and Göçmen, 2016, Zool. Middle East, 62: 255–260, named a new subspecies and discussed geographic variation. Veith, Göçmen, Sotiropoulos, Kieren, Godmann, and Steinfartz, 2016, Amphibia-Reptilia, 37: 373–387, revised the species and recognized four subspecies formerly regarded as species: Lyciasalamandra billae billae (eastern slope of the Caricinar Daglari, southwest of Antalya, 0-200 m elevation, and within 5 km to the west of Geyikbayırıı , 800–1100 m elevation, all in Antalya province, Türkiye); Lyciasalamandra billae arikani (mountainous areas between Beycik and Kumlucayaz, between 425 and 782 m elevation, Antalya, Türkiye); Lyciasalamandra billae irfani (vicinity of the type locality, Göynuk Canyon, Kemer, Antalya, Türkiye, ca. 280 m elevation), and Lyciasalamandra billae yehudai (eastern and northwestern slopes of Tahtal Mountain, Kemer region, Antalya, Türkiye). See Dufresnes, 2019, Amph. Eur., N. Afr., & Middle East: 175, for brief summary of identifying morphology and biology, a range map, as well as a photograph (see p. 211 for photographs and map of subspecies). Yaşar, Çiçek, Mulder, and Tok, 2021, North-West. J. Zool., Romania, 17(e201512): 232–275, discussed and grid-mapped the range in Türkiye. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 245–250, provided subspecies accounts, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
