Gymnopis multiplicata oaxacae Mertens, 1930 "1929", Abh. Ber. Mus. Nat. Heimatkd. Magdeburg, 6: 153. Holotype: SMF 22120, by original designation and according to Mertens, 1967, Senckenb. Biol., 48(A): 37. Type locality: "Cafetal Concordia, 600 m Höhe (zwischen Puerto Angel und Salina Cruz), Staat Oaxaca, Mexiko".

Pacific coast and tropical mesic elevations in the Balsas Depression of Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas, Mexico.

Erwin, 1973, HISS News J., 1: 98, provided the first record for Jalisco. Reviewed by Wake, 1998, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 661: 1–2. See also taxonomic discussion of Savage and Wake, 2001, Copeia, 2001: 52–64. Reyes-Velasco, Burkhardt, and Jones, 2008, Herpetol. Rev., 39: 480, provided a second record from Michoacán and provided a brief statement of the known records in southwestern Mexico.
