Occidozyga berbeza Matsui, Nishikawa, Eto, Hamidy, Hossman, and Fukuyama, 2021, Zootaxa, 4926: 539. Holotype: SRC 00022, by original designation. Type locality: "Gunung (= Mt.) Serapi, Kubah National Park, Matang, Kuching District, Sarawak, East Malaysia (01°36’25”N, 110°11’27”E, 282 m asl)". Species name is Malay language word.

Previous confused with Limnonectes rhacodus (now Occidozyga rhacoda) in Sarawak, Malaysia, according to the original publication. Haas, Das, Hertwig, Bublies, and Schulz-Schaeffer, 2022, Guide to the Tadpoles of Borneo: 281–283, summarized the knowledge of habitat, reproduction, larval morphology and coloration.
