Hypopachus guancasco Firneno, Itgen, Jacobs, Mcdaniels, Luque-Montes, Wilson, and Townsend, 2021, Syst. Biodiversity, 19: 197. Holotype: UF 157250, by original designation. Type locality: "3.5 straight-line km NNW of Guajiquiro (14.1462N, 87.8442W [DD]), 2,205m elevation, Departamento de La Paz, Honduras".

Previously confused with, and the sister taxon of Hypopachus barberi according to the original publication, where the morphological and molecular differences, as well as larval morphology, were discussed.
