Comment
A distance of 3200 km separates this species and its only congener according to Cannatella, 1985, in Frost (ed.), Amph. Species World: 261, implying concern for the historical reality of Barycholos. Barreto and Arzabe, 2005, Herpetol. Rev., 36: 198, provided a record from Maranhão, Brazil, and discussed its range. Araújo, Condez, and Haddad, 2007, Check List, 3: 153-155, provided the first record for the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Martins, Silva, and Giaretta, 2009, Salamandra, 45: 106-109, reported on the range. Siqueira, Aguiar, Pansonato, Giaretta, Strüssmann, Martins, and Recco-Pimentel, 2009, Genet. Mol. Biol., 32: 47-476, suggested on the basis of karyological data that a cryptic species may exist under this single name. Lemes, Tessaroio, Morais, and Bastos, 2012, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 7: 157-164, reported on vocalizations. Oliveira, Santos, Souza, Lima-Ribeiro, Vergilio, Zórtea, Silva, Melo, Guilherme, Vaz-Silva, and Morais, 2019, Herpetol. Notes, 12: 492, reported the species from southwestern Goíás, Brazil, and discussed natural history. Neves, Yves, Pereira Silva, Alves, Vasques, Coelho, and Silva, 2019, Herpetozoa, Wien, 32: 113–123, provided habitat information and records for western Minas Gerais, Brazil. Vaz-Silva, Maciel, Nomura, Morais, Guerra Batista, Santos, Andrade, Oliveira, Brandão, and Bastos, 2020, Guia Ident. Anf. Goiás e Dist. Fed. Brasil Central: 33, provided an account for Goiás and the D.F. population, Brazil.
