Centrolene petrophilum Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1991, Lozania, 58: 17. Holotype: ICN 9567, by original designation. Type locality: "Colombia, Departamento de Boyacá, municpio de Pajarito, Inspección de Policía Corinto, fina 'El Descanso'; quebrada 'La Limonita', vertiente oriental de la Cordillera Oriental, 5° 17′ latitud N, 72° 42′ W de Greenwich, 1600-1650 m".

Distribution
From the eastern side of the northern Cordillera Oriental of Colombia, 5°10′—5°30′ N, 1600-2020 m elevation.

In the Centrolene geckoideum group according to the original publication. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 210. Guayasamin, Castroviejo-Fisher, Trueb, Ayarzagüena, Rada, and Vilà, 2009, Zootaxa, 2100: 58, regarded this species as incertae sedis within Centroleninae.
