Comment
In the Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni group according to Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1991, Lozania, 57: 1-30. Lips and Savage, 1996, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 109: 17–26, included this species in a key to the tadpoles found in Costa Rica. See account by Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 374-375, in which Savage suggested that Hyalinobatrachium valerioi may be a composite of more than one species. Cisneros-Heredia and McDiarmid, 2007, Zootaxa, 1572: 65, discussed the species in Ecuador and noted the relevant literature. Cisneros-Heredia and McDiarmid, 2007 "2006", Herpetotropicos, Mérida, 3: 21-28, reviewed the literature and noted that the species referred to as "Hyalinobatrachium petersi" by Ruiz-Carranza and Lynch, 1998, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 22: 571-586, from the southwestern Andean slopes of Colombia, is actually Hyalinobatrachium valerioi. Kubicki, 2007, Glass Frogs Costa Rica: 250-263, provided an account and detailed range map for Costa Rica. Ortega-Andrade, Bermingham, Aulestia, and Paucar, 2010, Check List, 6: 122, reported the species in Esmeraldas Province, northwestern Ecuador. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 121–125, compared this species with others in Central America and provided an identification key, maps, and photographs. Guayasamin, Cisneros-Heredia, McDiarmid, Peña, and Hutter, 2020, Diversity, 12 (222): 135–139, provided a detailed account, primarily focused on Ecuador, including adult and larval morphology, advertisement call, relationships, natural history, and conservation status.
