Hyloxalus italoi Páez-Vacas, Coloma, and Santos, 2010, Zootaxa, 2711: 31. Holotype: QCAZ 33197, by original designation. Type locality: "Ecuador: Provincia Pastaza: Reserva de Bosque Tropical Fundación Hola Vida (01° 37′ S, 77° 54′ W; 831 m above sea level)".

Rana Cohete de Ítalo (Spanish: Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 2: xxxii).

Distribution

Elevations between 200 and 1051 m above sea level in the Amazonian lowlands of Pastaza and Morona Santiago provinces, Ecuador; into eastern slopes of the Andes in northern Peru.

Natural Resident: Ecuador, Peru

Comment

In the Hyloxalus bocagei complex and very similar to Hyloxalus yasuni according to the original publication. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 2: 130–133, provided an account, with photographs, which summarized identification, adult and larval morphology, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), conservation, and (on p. 557) the advertisement call.
