Hoplobatrachus salween Thongproh, Chunskul, Sringurngam, Waiprom, Makchai, Cota, Duengkae, Duangjai, Hasan, Chuaynkern, and Chuaynkern, 2022, Agr. Nat. Res., Thailand, 56: 1144. Holotype: cross-catalogued as KKUC 01173/THNHM 26829, by original designation. Type locality: "Baan Thataphung (18.078992°N, 97.696349°E; ca. 106 m a.s.l.), Salawin National Park, Mae Sariang district, Mae Hong Son province, northwestern Thailand."

Comment

Suggested on the basis of mtDNA analysis to be the sister taxon of Hoplobatrachus litoralis. Chuaynkern, Thongproh, Waiprom, Makchai, Duengkae, Duangjai, and Chuaynkern, 2023, Agr. Nat. Res., Thailand, 57: 317–378, described larval morphology. Makchai, Chuaynkern, Safoowong, Chuachat, Cota, and Pongcharoen, 2025, Amph. N. Thailand, Updated Ed.: 64, provided a brief account summarizing characteristics (including photographs), habitat, and a distribution map within Thailand by province.
