Nanorana gammii (Anderson, 1871)

Class: Amphibia > Order: Anura > Family: Dicroglossidae > Subfamily: Dicroglossinae > Genus: Nanorana > Species: Nanorana gammii

Rana Gammii Anderson, 1871, J. Asiat. Soc. Bengal, 40: 21. Syntypes: ZSIC 9172-73 according to Sclater, 1892, List Batr. Indian Mus.: 3; given as ZSIC 9664-67 by Chanda, Das, and Dubois, 2001 "2000", Hamadryad, 25: 109, although this seemingly does not include Annandale's lectotype; ZSIC 9173 designated lectotype by Annandale, 1917, Mem. Asiat. Soc. Bengal, 6: 119-155. Subsequently, Dubois, Ohler, and Pyron, 2021, Megataxa, 5: 239–240, gave reasons for designating ZSI 9667 as lectotype. Type locality: "Darjeeling, 4000 feet", India.

Comment

Removed from the synonymy of Nanorana annandalii by Ohler and Dubois, 2006, Zoosystema, 28: 769-784, where it had been placed by Dubois, 1975, Bull. Mus. Natl. Hist. Nat. Paris, Ser. 3, Zool., 324: 1099. See account (as Rana gammiei) by Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 76. Not addressed, and therefore not assigned to subgenus, by Che, Zhou, Hu, Papenfuss, Wake, and Zhang, 2010, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 107: 13765-13770, and Che, Zhou, Hu, Papenfuss, Wake, and Zhang, 2010, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, Suppl. Inform., doi:10.1073/pnas.1008415107/-/DCSupplemental: 2. See Subba, Aravind, and Ravikanth, 2016, Check List, 13(1: 2033): 6, for Sikkim, India, records. Tang, Liu, and Yu, 2023, Animals, 13(3427): 17, suggested that this species is unassignable to subgenus.
