Heterixalus carbonei Vences, Glaw, Jesu, and Schimmenti, 2000, Afr. Zool., 35: 270. Holotype: MSNG 49090, by original designation. Type locality: "Trano Passage, Strict Nature Preserve N9 'Tsingy de Bemaraha', 18° 42′ S, 44° 43′ E, 70 m a.s.l., Antsalova Fivondronana, Mahajanga Province, Madagascar".

Distribution
Swamps and ponds in in the vicinity of Kindy and Tsingy de Bemahara in western Madagascar, below 200 m elevation, and Montagne d'Ambre in northern Madagascar, at ca. 900 m elevation.

Most similar to Heterixalus betsileo according to the original publication. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 102, provided an account.
