Megalixalus tricolor Boettger, 1881, Zool. Anz., 4: 650. Syntypes: 2 specimens (presumably SMF); SMF 1141.1a reported as a type by Boettger, 1892, Kat. Batr. Samml. Mus. Senckenb. Naturforsch. Ges.: vi; SMF 7268 designated lectotype by Mertens, 1967, Senckenb. Biol., 48(A): 48 (a renumbering the Boettger's lectotype). Type locality: "in insula Nossi-Bé", Madagascar.
