Comment
See Blommers-Schlösser and Blanc, 1991, Faune de Madagascar, 75: 126. Formerly included in the synonymy of Heterixalus alboguttatus by Blommers-Schlösser, 1982, Beaufortia, 32: 9, and considered a nomen dubium by Guibé, 1978, Bonn. Zool. Monogr., 11: 87, although Glaw and Vences, 1993, Salamandra, 29: 212-230, applied this name to this species. F. Glaw (pers. comm.) suggests that the validity of this name is still uncertain and may be a synonym of Heterixalus tricolor. Glaw and Vences, 1994, Fieldguide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 2: 77, discussed the problems with application of this name. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 104, provided an account. Tillack, de Ruiter, and Rödel, 2021, Zoosyst. Evol., Berlin, 97: 440, briefly discussed the syntypes and their collector.
