Comment

The original publication detailed the advertisement call as well as external adult and larval morphology and molecular markers. Santos, Oliveira, Carvalho, Zaidan, Silva, Berneck, and Garcia, 2019, Zootaxa, 4648: 485, discussed unanswered taxonomic questions about morphologically similar frogs in adjacent areas of São Paulo, which show karyological and mtDNA differences. Santos, Magalhães, Lyra, Zaher, Giasson, Garcia, Carnaval, and Haddad, 2020, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 148 (106819): 1–18, noted three cryptic species in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Santos, Vilela, Carvalho, Silva, Rodrigues, Garcia, Carvalho, and Haddad, 2025, Herpetologica, 81: 264–278, reported on the advertisement call. Santos, Silva, and Haddad, 2026, Zootaxa, 5777: 597–600, discussed the range (providing a dot map of this species and near unnamed relatives) and their issues with the publication by Faria, Santana, Tognolo, and Mângia, 2025, Herpetol. Notes, 18: 861–866, which claimed the first record of Paratelmatobius segallai from the state of São Paulo, Brazil, populations which Santos et al. (2026) regard as Paratelmatobius cf. segallai.
