Region of the type locality in Yunnan, southwestern China and northern Vietnam (Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces) and reported in northern and eastern Laos.


If (following Dubois, 1980, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 49: 469-482) Ophryophryne is considered a subgenus of Megophrys, Ophryophryne pachyproctus Kuo, 1985, becomes a secondary homonym of Megophrys pachyproctus Huang, 1981.
