Distribution
Southern Yunnan(Mengxian; Pu'er Menglun Twon) in China, Laos (Vilabouli, Savannakhet; Xaysomboun, Vientiane; Phou Khoun, Louangphabang; Long Nai Khao, Phongsaly; Boun Tai, Phongsaly), and northern and central Vietnam (Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve, Quang Tri; Xuan Son, Phu Tho; Nghe An; Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh; Pu Hu Nature Reserve, Thanh Hoa; Muong Nhe, Dien Bien), and Thailand (Phu Soi Dao waterfall, Phitsanulok) at elevations of 500–1300 m.

Comment
In the Xenophrys major group according to the original publication, who detailed molecular markers and morphological characters and noted that this species corresponds to Megophrys sp. 14 of Chen, Zhou, Poyarkov, Stuart, Brown, Lathrop, Wang, Yuan, Jiang, Hou, Chen, Suwannapoom, Nguyen, Duong, Papenfuss, Murphy, Zhang, and Che, 2017, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 106: 32–33. Stuart, Seateun, Sivongxay, and Phimmachak, 2025 "2024", in Wildlife Lao PDR: 35, summarized literature, taxonomy, habitat, and detailed range for Laos, and who noted that this species has not been morphologically compared with Xenophrys major leaving the diagnoses of both uncertain.
