Sphenophryne loriae Boulenger, 1898, Ann. Mus. Civ. Stor. Nat. Genova, Ser. 2, 18: 707. Syntypes: MSNG (numerous specimens) and BMNH 1897.12.10.141–142 (now renumbered 1947.2.12.41-42), according to museum records and Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 170; one specimen in FMNH considered a 'cotype' (presumably a syntype in this context) by Marx, 1976, Fieldiana, Zool., 69: 59. Parker, 1934, Monogr. Frogs Fam. Microhylidae: 173, 176 also reidentified some MSNG syntypes to Cophixalus variegatus and Cophixalus ornatus; MSNG 29124 designated lectotype by Capocaccia, 1957, Ann. Mus. Civ. Stor. Nat. Genova, Ser. 3, 69: 220. Type locality: "Moroka", Central Province, Papua New Guinea.
