Vences, Glaw, Köhler, and Wollenberg, 2010, Contrib. Zool., Amsterdam, 79: : 1-32, reported on cryptic species implied by mtDNA analysis. Pyron and Wiens, 2011, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 61: 543-583, suggested that Anodonthyla is the sister taxon of remaining cophylines. Mezzasalma, Odierna, Brunelli, and Guarino, 2025, Genes, 16 (1464): 1–13, discussed karyotypes of a number of the species.
