Comment
Subgenus Eburana of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 328. See Stejneger, 1907, Bull. U.S. Natl. Mus., 58: 134-136; Boulenger, 1920, Rec. Indian Mus., 20: 176; Okada, 1966, Fauna Japon., Anura: 123-126; and Nakamura and Ueno, 1963, Japan. Rept. Amph. Color: 51. See comment under Rana ijimae. Records of China refer to Rana swinhoana; see comment under Rana swinhoana. Intraspecific differentiation reported by Nishioka, Ueda, and Sumida, 1987, Sci. Rep. Lab. Amph. Biol. Hiroshima Univ., 9: 261-303, who noted what presumably constitute a minimum of three species (and possibly be six—DRF): (1) "Iriomote Dwarf-type" + "Ishigaki Dwarf type" (now Rana utsunomiyaorum ), "Iriomote Giant-type" + "Ishigaki Giant type" (now Rana supranarina), "Okinawa Middle-type" (type of Rana narina—DRF) + "Amami Giant-type". The "Amami Giant type" is now Rana amamiensis. See Rana supranarina. Maeda and Matsui, 1990, Frogs Toads Japan, Ed. 2: 120-123, provided an account. Goris and Maeda, 2004, Guide Amph. Rept. Japan: 76-78, provided an account, map, and photograph. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Rana narina) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 508.
