Distribution

Known only from a small area in the Chugoku Region (Shimane and Yamaguchi Prefectures), western Honshu, Japan, 150–970 m elevation.

Comment

Prior to its naming confused with Hynobius nebulosus according to the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 120, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
