Comment

Prior to its naming confused with Hynobius nebulosus according to the original publication. Restricted by partition of Hynobius sumidai and Hynobius geiyoensis by Sugawara, Naito, Iwata, and Nagano, 2022, Bull. Kanagawa Prefect. Mus. (Nat. Sci.), 51: 35–46. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 120, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map). Tomimori, Matsui, Okawa, Nishikawa, Tanabe, and Kamasaka, 2023, Zootaxa, 5293: 145–160, provided a molecular and morphological reassessment of the species delimitation as well as an expanded description and species account.
