Holotype: KUHE 35891, according to the original publication. Type locality: "Todacho, Masuda-shi, Shimane Prefecture (34°41'44"N, 131°52'16"E, alt. 38 m)", Japan.

Iwami Salamander (original publication). 


Southwestern Honshu, Japan, mainly along the Japan Sea in northwestern Shimane and adjacent Hiroshima Prefectures, 38 to 100 m elevation. 


Prior to its naming, confused with Hynobius nebulosus according to the original publication.
