Comment

Comparative morphology and molecular markers detailed in the original publication, where this species, formerly confused with Hynobius tokyoensis, was placed as the sister taxon of that species. See comment under Hynobius tokyoensis for access to literature prior to 2022 when Hynobius sengokui was confused with that species. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 103, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
