Tsushima Islands (excluding the central to southern parts of Shimojima, former Izuhara-machi), in Nagasaki Prefecture, western Japan, at elevations of 25 m to 125 m.

Removed from the synonymy of Hynobius tsuensis on the basis if nuDNA and morphology by Niwa, Nishikawa, Matsui, Kanamori, and Kuro-o, 2023, Zootaxa, 5339: 201–235, where it had been placed by Mori, 1928, Chosen Nat. Hist. Soc. J., 6: 2; Oyama, 1930, Annot. Zool. Japon., 12: 443; Oyama, 1930, Copeia, 1930: 155–156; Tago, 1934, Zool. Mag., Tokyo, 46: 214–224.
