Hynobius yangi Kim, Min, and Matsui, 2003, Zool. Sci., Tokyo, 20: 1163. Holotype: KUHE 29842, by original designation. Type locality: "Hyom-ri, Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan-shi (129° 17′ E, 35° 19′ N, alt. 45 m)", Rep. Korea.

Known only from the immediate region of the type locality in southeastern Rep. Korea.


In the Hynobius nebulosus species group, most similar to Hynobius leechii according to the original publication. See brief account by Raffaëlli, 2007, Les Urodèles du Monde: 46. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 65, provided a brief account, photo, and map. Sparreboom, 2014, Salamanders Old World: 97–98, reviewed the biology, characteristics, distribution, reproduction, and conservation of the species.  Min, Baek, Song, Chang, and Poyarkov, 2016, Zootaxa, 4169: 475–503, reported on this molecular phylogenetics of this and closely related species. Borzée and Min, 2021, Animals, 11 (187): 1–36, mapped the species and discussed relationships.
