Comment

Fei, 1999, Atlas Amph. China: 206–208, provided a brief account, map, and figure. Karsen, Lau, and Bogadek, 1986, Hong Kong Amph. Rept.: 22, also provided a brief account. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status (as Paa exilispinosa) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 490. Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1365–1371, provided an account (as Paa exilispinosa) for China, figures, and map, and included this species in their Paa spinosa group. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2012, Colored Atlas Chinese Amph. Distr.: 462–463, provided an account, photographs, and a range map for China. Shen, 2014, Fauna Hunan, Amph.: 286–289, provided an account for Hunan, China. Li, 2011, Amph. Rept. Guangdong: 58, provided a brief account for Guangdong, China, and photograph. Wu, Chen, and Wu, 2020, MtDNA, Part B, 5: 2705–2706, reported on the complete mtDNA genome. Chen, Hu, Zhong, Shangguan, and Ding, 2021, Zootaxa, 4926: 446–450, reported on advertisement calls. Yan, Nneji, Jin, Yuan, Chen, Mi, Chen, Murphy, and Che, 2021, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 163 (107218): 1–7, found mtDNA evidence of hybridization with Quasipaa spinosa, its sister species, and provided a map of samples, which implies that records from southern Hunan and northern Guangxi require confirmation (DRF).
